Day 1: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park – Bukavu, Congo

Today after an early breakfast at hotel, your driver guide will transfer you to the Bukavu in DR Congo.

Day 2: Lowland Gorilla trekking

The driver guide will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing before you can start the lowland gorilla trek. The experience takes anything from 1 hour to several before locating them depending on where they nested. Once you locate them, you have 1 hour in their presence before you leave their presence.

Day 3: Visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary

This sanctuary takes care of chimpanzees and different species of monkeys, parrots and turtles that have been rescued from poachers who capture them for animal pet trade. You will spend time at the sanctuary learning more about the different animals.

Day 4: Transfer to Virunga National Park – Goma

Today after breakfast, you will start your drive to Goma in the north of Bukavu. The journey is not long but parts of the road are not good. Enjoy different sights of Congo as you drive past villages.

Day 5: Mountain Gorilla trekking

After an early morning breakfast, your first stop will be the park headquarters for briefing before starting the trek. After briefing, together with your ranger guide, you will start the hike in search of mountain gorillas. You are allowed 1 hour with these gentle giants after locating them. After this experience start the journey back to the headquarters and proceed to the camp for overnight.

Day 6: Nyiragongo hike

You will have your morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters-Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15am. You will be briefed and a have chance to hire porters in preparation to start up the Nyiragongo volcano hike. This will take about 6 hours depending on your speed and fitness, where some people may hike in fewer hours and others take more time. The trail is through lava rocks, forested areas and the open space for you to enjoy the views. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views of the boiling lava emitting red glow from the crusted lava and can have pictorial moments.

You will spend the night at the crater rim.

Camping at Nyiragongo Volcano

Day 7: Descending from Nyiragongo Volcano and Transfer to Kigali

Today morning you start to descend back to the park headquarters. It will take you about four hours. On reaching the bottom you will transfer back to the boarder at Grande Barriere and proceed to Kigali.
