Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Tarangire retains an air of undiscovered Africa, as it is less visited than other northern Tanzanian parks. It is a haven for birds. 550 bird species, the world’s largest selection found in one habitat, find their home in Tarangire. The stocking-thighed ostrich, the world’s largest bird, might greet you in its party dress of plumes! You can stay at Tarangire Safari Lodge located inside the park where you can go for a night game drive to spot nocturnal animals such as aardvarks, dik diks, genets, civet, cerval cats, bush babies and various night birds. (Optional activity: extra fees apply.) Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge/equivalent

Day 3: Tarangire to Central Serengeti National Park

The lush plains of the Serengeti have made it an ideal home to wildlife for millions of years. This ancient ecosystem continues to thrive, and wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and giraffes are often seen grazing in herds. This is one of the best places in the world to spot lions dozing in a shade, leaping after a marked prey or gnawing off a share of their hunt. Depart Tarangire and drive to Central Serengeti via Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Dinner and overnight Serengeti Sopa Lodge/equivalent

Day 4: Central to Northern Serengeti

Early morning breakfast then depart for full day game drives at the northern Serengeti near the Tanzania and Kenya border. This is the long dry season and the wildebeest migration is moving north with the thundershowers. July, August and September are the months when wildebeest herds cross the crocodile-infested Mara River to reach the Masai Mara. And this provides for some amazing wildlife viewing. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest can congregate at crossing points: all crossing in a single continuous wave of beasts. And all this while tooth and claw are waiting around the sides to pick off the weak and the careless. Dinner and overnight at Ikoma Tented Camp/equivalent

Day 5-6: Full day in Kogatende Area- Hot air balloon safari on Day 5

Early morning breakfast and then depart for full day game drives in Kogatende with your expert guide. (A Serengeti balloon safari is a fantastic once in a lifetime experience, particularly suitable for a bird’s eye-view game viewing experience on your African Mecca wildlife tour in northern Tanzania. Hot air balloon rides leave from three sites in this prime national park ) Many visitors only want to see the river crossings but the true spectacle of the migration is more than 1,245,000 wildebeests, 200,000 Burchell’s zebras, 18,000 elands and 500,000 Thomson’s Gazelles filling the entire stretch of landscape. The shifting columns of the herds as they traverse the valleys and the hills can only be watched in awe. Dinner and overnight at Sayari camp/equivalent

Day 7: Northern to Central Serengeti

Return to Central Serengeti after spending a few days in the northern part of the park bordering the Maasai Mara. Kubu Kubu is a brand new tented lodge opening in June 2016. It is situated on a hill, offering panoramic views of the endless savannah plains of Seronera. You can enjoy a cocktail by the swimming pool, or sip a glass of wine in your private verandah. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day’s activities in the bush. Dinner and overnight at Ikoma Tented Camp/equivalent

Day 8: Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Enjoy game viewing in central Serengeti before heading Ngorongoro Crater rim for dinner and overnight.

The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera of the once-volcanic Ngorongoro shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth, ringed with towering walls and sheltering forests, grasslands, fresh springs and a large soda lake. Simba safari lodge/equivalent

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

Descend into the Ngorongoro caldera very early in the morning to view the wildlife on the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called “Africa’s Eden” and the “8th Natural Wonder of the World”. A massive extinct volcano, the sheet walls drop thousands of feet to a “Noah’s Ark” of animals on the verdant floor below. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist.

Leave the crater late afternoon and drive back to Arusha for relaxation and overnight at Natron Palace Hotel/equivalent
